L&Q open to offers for Walthamstow stadium

A NEW approach to lease or buy the site occupied by Walthamstow Stadium was on Thursday sent to the site’s owners, housing developer London & Quadrant, as hopes that the famous old stadium could once again stage greyhound racing were raised.

The news follows a meeting between Save Our Stow (SOS) campaigners and Richard Leach, of chartered accountants Kuhrt Leach, who is attempting to broker a deal for the Chingford Road track, which closed last August after 75 years greyhound racing.

Land Registry documents held by SOS show that L&Q paid £18,075,001 to the Chandler family last year, although the current market value of the site is likely to be less given the current economic downturn.

With no planning permission granted, SOS believes the housing association has acquired a white elephant and is confident they will now listen to offers to either lease the stadium or purchasethe land outright.
