Death of Johnny Seagrave, aged 76

JOHNNY SEAGRAVE, the former leading northern jockey who forged a successful second career as a greyhound trainer on his retirement, has died at the age of 76.

Malton-based, he was attached to Stainforth – as it then was – and Hull prior to the last-named’s closure, and enjoyed perhaps his biggest successes in 2002 when Stay For John won both the KBS Gold Cup and William Hill Gold Cup at Newcastle, plus the Easter Cup at Perry Barr.

Home-bred Farball was another well-known Seagrave greyhound of that era, while he was also well-known for dogs running under the Macsea prefix.
