Holdem turns up trumps in Scottish Derby final

HOLDEM SPY completed his unbeaten run through the Ladbrokes Scottish Derby at Shawfield last night, although the race was marred by crowding at the first bend that saw Jaytee Lightning and Metro Jack hit the sand.

The fallers thankfully completed the course a long way in arrears, but up front Holdem Spy and Mind The Net enjoyed a tremendous duel.

Irish raider Mind The Net looked set for victory when going round ahead after finally finding his trapping boots, but Holdem Spy turned in a handy slot and his now familiar back-straight burst took him to the front around the final turns.

It looked as though Carol Weatherall's strong-running dog had the race sewn up, but Mind The Net refused to buckle and came again on the run for home. However, the leader had enough in the tank to hold Pat Buckley's dog, seeing him off by a neck in 28.87sec for the 500m trip.
