Dolores Ruth: a third round Derby treble for the Irish trainer

  PICTURE: STEVE NASH
Williamhill.com Derby third round - Heat 1
1 Bubbly Phoenix  (trap 6) 4.80sec 28.19sec  seven and quarter
2 Longwood Hawk  (trap 1) 5.00  five anda half
3 Trewmount Snap  (trap 4) 4.87

Normal service resumed here with a runaway seven-lengths plus win by Bubbly Phoenix, who trapped modestly but then showed a burst of pace to take advantage of bunching on his inside. Paul Young's dog then cut the bend, chopping off You Mind Me and Trewmount Snap.  That pair then collided on the second bend along with Kirkland Black,  with slow starting  Longwood Hawk missing the trouble and turning second down the back. Trewmount Snap, of the non stayers, held on best for third. But Bubbly Phoenix was back to his majestic first round best, moving very wide off the last bend on his way to a fastest of the round 28.19sec

Heat 2
1 Razldazl Jayfkay (trap 4)  4.77 28.48sec three quarters
2 Griagues Orchard  (trap 1) 4.85  half length
3 Westmead Adonis  (trap 2) 4.87
Razldazl Jayfkay took a step wide on leaving the boxes, and that was effectively the end of the Derby for the pair on his outside, principally Skywalker Gold and also Bowtime Sykes (carted wide at bend), but not the ante-post favourite, who quickly straightened up and burst clear. He did appear to lose his footing slightly coming out of the first bend, and the chasing pack were then on his tail and made him work harder than expected. Graigues Orchard was soon and always second, keepng middle and running well to go down by less than a length, Westmead Adonis was always third, a further half length back.

Heat 3
1 Shelbourne Geoff  (trap 6) 4.77 28.54sec one length
2 Droopys Loner (trap 2)  4.87 two and a half
3 Mark My Words  (trap 3) 4.91
The syndicate that includes Tony McCoy are getting a great run in this year's Derby from Shelbourne Geoff, who flew out and then battled hard to come back when passed by Droopys Loner  down the back. For the third successive round, Droopys Loner has taken part in a truly exciting battle  (she is the sole surviving bitch ) and deserves appearance money just for making the Classic a thriller!  Yet to trap, if she does, it will be interesting given such serious pace. Mark My Words did not look as though he was going to qualify, drifting wide at the bend, and then getting crowded at the quarter and third. He was still fifth coming out of the third bend but kept on best coming home to survive into Tuesday's quarter-finals.  Westmead Maldini and Go Go Sonic were always struggling to make it after very slow starts.

Heat 4
1 Razldazl Rioga  (trap 1)  4.75 28.62sec threequarters
2 Mill Maximus  (trap 4) 4.78 two lengths
3 Droopys Lorenzo  (trap 6) 4.91
Razldazl Rioga blasted clear from trap one (double for Dolores Ruth) and although Mill Maximus ran a race and a half to keep on his tail throughout (beaten less than a length, edging closer throughout!), it was nevertheless pretty much race over at the traps. Rioga, the Cork Laurels champion, looks lethal drawn red.  Mill Maximus wil have cheered the Kelly Macari camp after Mill Bling Bling went out in the previous heat. Droopys Lorenzo came away poorly but showed good pace to go and stay third. The others never got into the race. Ruthless Man was hopelessly left.

Heat 5
1 Boher Paddy (trap 1)  4.84  28.48sec short head
2 Farloe Ironman  (trap 3) 4.76 seven and a half
3 Bucks Blade 4.87  (trap 2) (three quarters)
It's now 12 starts from red, 12 wins for Boher Paddy but he was made to work tremendously hard by Farloe Ironman, who pinged and led to near the line. There was a long delay before the photo confirmed Charlie Lister's dog had got up. It was a fantastic buckle and Matt Dartnall can count himself a little unlucky not to have won - but is safely through. Bucks Blade came off best as the field, a long way behind, bunched off the last and took third. The others had also been in first bend bunching, Shelbourne Abi missing the kick.

Heat 6
1 Young Sid (trap 3) 4.74  28.46sec four and a quarter
2 Taylors Sky (trap 2) 4.95 length and a half
3 Longwood Days  (trap 1) 4.97
Paul Young's Derby is definitely back on track with a double thanks to Young Sid, the Blue Riband hero, who pinged and made all. Defending champ TaylorsSky (trap two) and red runner Longwood Days were both slow away and collided at the start - they looked to face a struggle to qualify before they got a stroke of luck. Fast up Castlebridge Dan ran off at the bend and clobbered Jaytee Pedro, and suddenly Taylors Sky was left second. Longwood Days took third as Jaytee Perdo got an awful run, stopped at the second, halfway and third.

Heat 7
1 Coolavanny Bert   (trap 2) 4.78 28.51sec short head
2 Droopys Jet  (trap 1) 4.91 three and a quarter
3 Blonde Snapper  (trap 3) 4.83sec
Owner trainer John Gardner has his Coolavanny Bert showing fantastic pace up and he comprehensively took command here as Blonde Snapper, who had also trapped, veered wide early from three.  It seemed all over, but wait, Ireland's Droopys Jet, for the first time getting a clear run and finally looking at home round the track, came with a great effort, was arguably crowded slightly off the last as he moved up and then challenged on the outside of the leader before going down by the minimum margin.   Two cracking dogs who still have a great chance, as has Blonde Snapper, if drawn further out.  The others here never got into the race.

Heat 8
1 Razldazl Bugatti (trap 3) 4.76 28.61sec five and a quarter
2 Tinas Nova (trap 1) 4.87  head
3 Judicial Ruling (trap 5)

An Irish-1-2-3 here and a fabulous Dolores Ruth-trained treble was completed by Razldazl Bugatti who made all. He crowded slightly with King Jaffa at the boxes but was soon clear for an impressive win. Tinas Nova, who crowded with Lenson Ginger at the boxes, was second  from the bend and has run well throughout the event. Judicial Ruling kept on for third after a modest break and first bend crowding.
