Bieber stars at Romford: Sawpit soars at Notts
Maxine Locke: Her Bridge Jane pulls off a surprise win at Romford
PICTURE: STEVE NASHTHREE heats of the Doug Tyler Summer Cup were the highlight of Romford's Monday evening Bags card and the 575-metre competition attracted a good turn out headed by Mark Wallis's Aero Joker who went from red in the third eliminator.
However, the course and distance specialist was beaten to the punch by Maxine Locke's 12-1 chance Bridge Jane who cracked out and stole a march to make all in 35.54sec.
Aero Joker had to battle hard to get the better of Soviet Josie for second spot and qualify for what promises to be a fascinating £750 decider on Friday.
The opening heat, which was delayed for over ten minutes after Tain Flip (subsequently withdrawn) had got loose on parade, went to Droopy Bieber (9-4F).
Jim Reynolds' railer showed excellent middle pace to come from last to first and catch runaway leader Droopys Gizmo on the short run in and record a time of 35.76sec.
Heat two saw Brave The Times and Soviet Military have a good battle for four bends with the former eventually getting on top from the fifth.
Chris Mosdall's black, who was sent off the 9-4 jolly, kept up a relentless gallop to beat the staying on Aero Venus by 2 1/2L in 35.51sec.
Draw for Friday's final (live on RPGTV): 1 Bridge Jane, 2 Aero Joker, 3 Droopys Bieber, 4 Brave The Times, 5 Aero Venus (m), 6 Droopys Gizmo (w).
The Stadium Bookmakers Standard Trophy final was top billing at Nottingham and the £400 decider went to Dave Hunt's Sawpit Sensation. The 4-5 jolly managed to turn four lengths off the pace but stormed into the third bend and overpowered the front running Swift Frogma to win going away in a time of 30.11sec. Envy Apple King stayed on well to snatch second albeit 2 1/2L behind the winner.
The Nottingham card also included three heats of the Stadium Bookmakers Puppy Oaks for which Denis Curtin's Clogher Rose (10-1) caused a surprise when mugging 2-1 jolly Sharies Miller in the final stride to set the bar at 29.58sec.
Heat two went to Matt Dartnall's Ballymac Wander (4-5F) who beat the fast finishing Goa Leprechaun in 29.36sec while the third eliminator saw Keith Allsop's Slick Salamanca (4-5F) justify the confidence in a time of 29.57sec.
