BILLY BUNTER

Weblog: The football punter

No need for telescope to spot stars at Bernabeu

I CAN’T say I have ever been a fan of the draw-no-bet.

I know plenty of punters swear by it in the knowledge that should the team they fancy be held there will still be some money in their account the next day, but it’s just not for me.

We are all supposed to say that we like a bet but we don’t like to
gamble, but I just don’t like taking a shorter price on a team I think will win when they come up with the goods.

It’s a personal thing, but I’m just wondering whether it might grow on me now that I’ve had to wait the extra dayfor Brighton to play Wrexham.

It was a frozen pitch, apparently so they go again tonight.

The action will still be televised after the day’s delay, but I don’t
know if I’m going to get to watch any of it.

It’s Mrs B. She’s trying to draw the line and it doesn’t help that
she’s fallen head over heels for Professor Brian Cox, that
smooth-talking genius who has warned us that the world will end some time in the next five-and-a-half  billion years.

She is trying to kid me into buying her a telescope so she can look deep into the night sky and help Brian discover another planet or two, but I know her game.

So, for the final time tonight, she can do her gazing into space.

And then we can watch some proper stars at 9pm when Real Madrid play Barcelona in the Copa del Rey.
