BILLY BUNTER

Weblog: The football punter

Inflated egos will not get in way of Dutch delight

IT'S coming home, it's coming home, it's coming, football's coming home.

Those ruddy Germans broke my heart back in 1996 when, not content with beating England in the semis they then went and stole our song too. Back then my life was not dictated by my gambling habits but now I support whoever is carrying the Bunter millions and regular readers will know I have nailed my colours to the mast of Germany.

I don't think I will be able to go in the boozer in my full German replica kit on Saturday when they take on Portugal - I'm brave and stupid but not that brave nor stupid - so I will have to cheer my outright selection in front of the box and just hope Mrs B is more understanding than my mates.

There's no way I will be betting on that game anyway with so much invested in the outright, although I loved the confidence of Lukas Podolski, who told Bild newspaper: "Germany will win 2-0 against Portugal."

Somebody with a bigger head than Cristiano Ronaldo, who would have guessed that was possible?

Anyway the punt of the day is to support another dressing-room full of inflated egos and back Holland to dish out a defeat on Denmark to leave us Oranje backers in Dutch delight.

Look at that Dutch squad. Robin van Persie, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and about another eight forwards who scored a zillion goals for their clubs this season.

Denmark have Nicklas Bendtner.

Ladies and gentleman, I rest my case.
