I'm giving up the blame game ... or am I?
A NEW Year means a New Year's resolution and just like Arsene Wenger I've decided to start afresh and not blame refs and linesmen for my own inadequacies.
But unlike The Prof, a couple of days into 2012 and I'm still sticking to mine despite being sorely tested.
The Stadium of Light on Sunday was a case in point. City should have dotted up but I knew I was in trouble as soon as I spotted Edin Dzeko's name on the teamsheet. Ever wondered why he's not at Old Trafford? He was linked with United often enough. Fergie must have watched a highlights package or two.
Anyway, Sunderland held on and nicked it with a goal that was clearly offside. I've done my dough but am I cross with the flag wielder for not wielding his flag? Not a bit of it.
I'm more curious to know why Gareth Barry was standing in the middle of the penalty box on his lonesome with his arm in the air rather than doing something constructive like marking someone, checking a run or pushing out.
And while we're at it, maybe someone can tell me why Gareth Barry gets anywhere near the England squad.
Mancini, Capello; what is it with Italians and blind spots? Worse judges than Amanda Holden.
So I'm moving on, free of guilt, and lumping on United at Newcastle. Even without a defence of any note I'd expect the Red Devils to devour a Toon outfit heading for mid-table and even if the bet fails amid a sea of controversial yellow cards, offside goals and dubious penalty awards I'll simply blame it all on Gabriel Obertan.
I wouldn't be the first. Happy New Year!
