BILLY BUNTER

Weblog: The football punter

Group A has proved to be a real cracker not a chore

I must admit, when the draw for the Euro 2012 finals was made, Group A didn't tickle my fancy.

I'd even agreed to let Mrs Bunter do the hoovering during Poland versus the Czech Republic (we've drawn up a tournament schedule so that annoying housework disrupts my football viewing as little as possible. I really am a very considerate husband).

Now, though, that schedule has had to be torn up because Group A has turned out to be an unexpected cracker of a section.

The Greeks have come to the party, getting a man sent off in hilarious circumstances against Poland and then unleashing their woeful goalkeeper Chalkias against the Czechs, who have their own chaotic cat in the form of Petr Cech.

Poland scored a belter against Russia and also put together the best passing move of the tournament, which was sadly finished off by a bloke standing eight yards offside.

And the Russians look a smashing team going forward, which is why I'm backing them to beat Greece on Saturday night.

The only downside to this bet is that the game is on the BBC so there's a chance that we'll have to endure Mark Lawrenson moaning his way through the co-commentary.

Get that hoover on sharpish!
