Weblog: What do you mean the Wi-Fi doesn't work? The life of a Racing Post reporter

Ever tried drying a laptop out on a radiator?

Sorry to sound like a relic from the Dark Ages but . . . Thank heavens for old-fashioned technology.

Now, the fact that you are reading this blog on our website shows that you are a hi-tech, 21st century type of person.

And I know that many folk download the Racing Post digitally as a PDF or get their fix via a smartphone app.

But I am old enough to rely on the 18th century technology of printed paper, so that when my copy got soaked after my daughter Rosa's bottle leaked this morning I just dried it out and it was (nearly) as good as new.

But try dousing a laptop or an iphone in water then putting it on the radiator and see what happens.

Older was probably better if you were a racehorse owner too.
Not one of the top dogs - life has always been fine and dandy at the highest level and racing does its best to look after its big names, from current titans Coolmore and Godolphin all the way back to Charles II in the sport's founding days.

But we have been analysing falls in prize-money across the board for a news feature to be published later this week and things have been far from rosy at the lower levels of the game.

Can't give away too many secrets at this stage but I would suggest that there are not many people driving Rolls Roycespaid for by their wins in Southwell sellers.

Less gloom in a briefing on the Champion Hurdle to go with tomorrow's Pricewise preview - better not get all those words of wisdom soggy.
